Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Pakachoag School website. Pakachoag School is located atop windy Pakachoag hill and serves approximately 300 students in grades 3-5.  At Pakachoag School we strive to provide an excellent, well balanced education for our students as well as to create a love of learning that will carry them through not only the next several years of schooling but throughout their adult lives.

Our academic curriculum centers on our strong belief that all students can reach high standards.  With this in mind we provide a balanced literacy program that differentiates through the use of leveled readers and literacy circles.  Our math curriculum is driven by the Everyday Math Program which provides a challenge for all.  Title I math support is also incorporated into our math block to allow for additional support for struggling math students.  Social studies is taught with an integrated approach to allow students to make connections to other curriculum areas as well as their own everyday lives.  New Scott Foresman science materials were purchased which allows for much hands-on learning as well as leveled non-fiction reading.  Writing is integral to every area of our curriculum and this is reflected throughout the school.  Using the writing process, addressing various genres and focusing on the six traits of writing have all helped to strengthen our students writing and MCAS scores.

In addition to our academic program Pakachoag strongly sees a need for balance and provides this through its outstanding music, art and physical education programs.   Specialists work closely with classroom teachers to integrate key concepts into all areas.  Students are highlighted through the various concerts, art show and theme celebrations that are orchestrated by the specialists.

All of this would be for naught without a true focus on character and responsibility.   Through our wonderful guidance program students learn about their responsibility to be an informed, caring and active citizen.  This, together with a strong commitment by all staff and parents to foster positive character traits and hold students responsible for respectful, hard working behavior has resulted in a true community of learners.

Parent volunteers have always been a tradition at Pakachoag School though the number seems to have grown in recent years.  Pakachoag is also fortunate to have the extra assistance of the R.S.V.P. volunteers.  Our P.T.O. is second to none and this dedicated group of parents continues to make many wonderful extras possible for our students.

I am thrilled that we have finally entered the age of technology and that you will be able to access important information that effects your children in a far simpler manner. Do not however hesitate to pick up the phone and call to get answers to questions, to share a concern or simply to let us know how we are doing in our efforts to provide excellence in education.

Yours in Education,

Kathleen Lauzé - Principal
