A Regular Education Process
Guidelines
The following guidelines are provided as a tool to assist the district, schools and teams to provide consistency and continuity regarding student support services.
Expressed Concerns:
Concerns are expressed to/among:
Building Administrator
Guidance Counselor
School Psychologist
One or more of the following individuals has expressed concerns regarding a students program and/or well being:
Parent/Guardian
Student
Teacher
Administrator
Staff Member
Physician
Other Individual(s) Providing Service(s) to the student
The student's classroom teacher will review the cumulative record file and confer with the guidance counselor, regarding, but not limited to, the following:
District Curriculum Accommodation Plan (DCAP)
Previous Educational Study Team reports
Individual Student Success Plan
Special Education Records
Section 504 Records
Title 1 Records
Remedial Program(s) Records
Individual and/or group test
The student's classroom teacher/guidance counselor will meet with the School Psychologist to review the status of assessments either previously completed, in process, and/or planned.
The EST will assign the appropriate individual to contact the student's parent/guardian to discuss the referral to the EST.
Referral to the EST does not automatically denote referral to:
Special Education
Section 504
Title 1
Other Support Services
Concerns Checklist
The teacher and/or individual(s) making a referral to the EST will complete the appropriate Concerns Checklist(s)
The teacher and/or individual(s) making the referral to the EST will make an appointment to meet with the EST
EST Composition
The school guidance counselor will chair the Educational Study Team meeting.
Core members of the EST include:
School Psychologist
Guidance Counselor
Regular Education Administrator, as appropriate
Other school personnel and specialist as necessary
Parent/Guardian and Student, fourteen years of age or older, will be invited to participate in the EST process
All EST efforts must be documented and maintained on file with the District
Cumulative Record file at the student's school
Accommodations related to area(s) of concern
Section 504 file, if referred to/receiving services under Section 504
Special Education file, if referred to/receiving services under Special Education
The school guidance counselor will sign the EST form and forward it to the building principal.
